Garage Redesign We have a 3 car garage that we need to park 2 cars in - AND use it for lots of storage and as a workshop We have progressed in several phases on the Garage project: Initially (soon after moving in) we had a row of cupboards added along one wall and a workbench at the back. I subsequently added a few cheap shelves in the middle and build in some shallow shelving on the wall opposite the cupboards. I opened up the attic space with a fold down stairway and boarded the floor area where there was sufficient headroom and added side shelving for more (out of the way) storage It lived this way for a long time. More recently I've upgraded the attic access stairs to metal folding version (much better), added a dual L-shaped reconfigurable heavy duty shelving unit in the middle, some reconfigurable wall hook systems (for step ladders etc) and replaced the flimsy bench with a more elaborate and stable workbench with integrated storage and 3 inexpensive powered rolling tool-chest type carts for tools and equipment and also as bases for a drill press, compound miter saw and table saw As another project we upgraded from a 40 gallon hot water tank to an 80 gallon fiberglass tank - a much bigger tank that required opening up the walls to install higher water & power connections. In doing so I also added plumbing for a Garage sink and installed this directly into the bench top as a utility sink. I have also added a whole house water filter, expansion tank, water pressure gauge and water softener (we have quite hard water). I also added an automatic water shut-off system for water leak prevention (see other listings for these items) I also plan to add a column in the garage center to support a beam to the front wall to break the center span and provide more stability for the above garage storage space. I'll also use this opportunity to power the column with 120v and 220v GFCI outlets for tool use.
