Video: Since we live remotely from the rest of our family we take more home video than most - documenting most of the major things we do and some of the routine too! We started out in 1992 (just before Alex was born) with a Sony Video8 analog camera but have evolved to the digital MiniDV format. The Sony Video8 was also bulky and not convenient to carry around... Our next buy was a Canon ZR Mini-DV. This was as small as many digital still cameras and was easy to take along anywhere - this ushered in a major increase in on location video... we took it everywhere. Eventually the camera started to misbehave so we switched to a Canon Elura 40 - a similarly small Mini-DV camera. Unfortunately we have had some issues with the Elura and have had to send it in for service several times... currently its working OK again.. fingers crossed. We can also now edit the video on the computer and output onto DVD's... Its a lot of work though and I usually just don't have the time to do much... I have a machine I custom built for this with a fast raid disk array, IEEE1394 interface and DVD writer. I did edit a "Music Video" for Alex & a friend for his music class at school. It was a challenge but came out very well - I was pleased! I do regularly mix down the home video highlights on to a VHS tape that I can send to my Mother and sister in England. We occasionally do the same for Marlene's Mother & Brother and also sometime record Video Greetings for birthdays! Must.. do... more...!
